Camping & Directions

The British Grand Prix is the jewel in Silverstone’s crown and it attracts nearly 400,000 people over the racing weekend (according to 2016 figures). That’s a lot of people looking for parking, looking to pitch tents or looking to hook up their caravans to power units.

With Landcruise Motorhome Hire you can travel in comfort and style with all mod cons, and if you don’t attend all the race days you can sit in your motorhome and watch the event on the telly while you cook up a barbecue outside.

First you need somewhere to park near Silverstone, though, so here is a guide to some places worth checking out.

The Official Silverstone Campsite
The closest campsite to Silverstone and officially endorsed by the track. Woodlands has excellent facilities, food and drink outlets and entertainment.

Silverstone Camping
Situated between the A43 and Luffield Abbey, this 50-acre campsite is close to Silverstone. The campsite is itself like a Grand Prix event, with market stalls and motor racing exhibitions where you can view cars, merchandise and buy mementoes.

Whittlebury Park
This is a golf and country club with camping facilities, so you could be set for a great sporting weekend at this venue. Situated close to the circuit, the site has its own private paths into the circuit grounds.

Dadford Road campsite and parking
Dadford Road site is a large field in open countryside not far from the circuit and positioned well for a quick getaway after the event. Parking costs from £5 a day but for the F1 weekend they are advertising a £40 weekend pass (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). The walk to the circuit is five minutes.

What to pack in your motorhome for the Grand Prix weekend

The great thing about a mobile home is you can pack everything you might need for a long weekend away,  as well as some things just in case. Take wet weather gear, for example, as well as umbrellas or hats. A sun hat and sunglasses are an essential because a day sitting in glary sunshine can be exhausting and give you a headache. Don’t forget sunblock as well.

Other items to think about for a Grand Prix weekend: mobile phone charger, cameras with charger cables as well as enough memory cards to last, because you will no doubt take more photos than you will ever need.

Take a deckhair or portable seat. One of those folding stools would be useful if you aren’t going to be sitting in a grandstand. A mini radio is also useful so you can keep up with events. Silverstone launched a radio station in April, broadcasting on 87.7FM at all Silverstone events.
