Winter in Europe

Posted on: Friday 27th of September 2019

In one of our earlier posts, ‘The Joy of Motorhoming Out of Season‘, we guided you through the many great reasons to go away in a motorhome during the off-season. Number one on the list is the cheap off-peak prices, but another big draw is the opportunity to leave behind our dank, cold winter, in exchange for much warmer European climates.

The most popular destinations for those heading south are Portugal, Spain, Italy and France, where average winter temperatures reach a very pleasant 19 degrees.

Here is just a handful of some the best rated campsites to migrate to, all of which have been inspected and recommended by the Camping & Motorhome Club.

Guincho, Lisbon

Guincho is dog friendly and surrounded by great walks. It’s perfectly located to enjoy a peaceful winter beach holiday or city break to Lisbon.

Turiscampo, Lagos

Also dog friendly, and great for families. The location is ideal for those who want a relaxing break and for those who want to pursue active outdoor pursuits – the Algarve is perfect for kayaking and diving.

La Bella Vista, Malaga

La Bella Vista is located right on the beach, making it the perfect winter migration destination. Loads of nearby activities including golf, dolphin watching and horse riding.

Marjal Guardamar,  Guardamar del Segura

A 5-star resort located next to the Guardamar National Park. Just a stones throw away from the beach and lots of great places and activities nearby to visit and try your hand at.

Pyrénées Natura, Estaing

If you’re a fan of majestic mountain views with the opportunity to see birds of prey from the observation area, then the Pyranees Natura is for you. A stunning location.

Les Genêts, Salles Curan

Great for families and set on the shores of Lake Pareloup, with beautiful lakeside pitches. There’s loads to do from swimming and fishing to paintball and archery.

Caravan Park Sexten, Sesto

The average temperature in Northern Italy this time of year may not be as toasty as the other destinations on the list, but it sure makes up for it with location.

Set in a forest in the Dolomites, it is surrounded by breath-taking scenery including a stream, forest and mountain views. Also worth noting that the heated indoor swimming pool and on-site restaurants are open all year round.
