Travelling with your dog

Motorhome holidays are a great opportunity for you to go away with your dog(s), but as with small children, you’ll need to remember to bring a few things to ensure that their time away is as comfortable and stress free as possible.

Safety First

Dogs should be suitably restrained when in a vehicle so they cannot distract the driver according to Rule 57 of the Highway Code. Therefore you should consider your dog’s travelling position when selecting the right motorhome/campervan for your hire. Have a look at the following:

  • Can you place a fabric/plastic travel crate just behind the cab seats?
  • Can a specially designed safety harness be attached to a headrest, seatbelt, hook or handle?

Please note our cabs have passenger air bags that cannot be deactivated, therefore a dog should not be secured on a passenger seat.

Doggy essentials

  • Food, bottled water, and extra treats
  • Collapsible food bowl and non spill water bowl
  • Paw towels and wipes
  • Their favourite toys/ball and plenty of poo bags!
  • A long lead plus ground tether or stake (don’t forget your mallet)
  • Familiar bedding (take a plastic sheet if you have a fabric bed, to put underneath so it doesn’t get wet on the ground outside)
  • Sofa/Seat throws to protect the van’s upholstery
  • ID Tag: Make sure this has your mobile number rather than a landline
  • First Aid kit (copy of your dog’s veterinary records) and tick remover
  • LED collar or light if you are heading out at night
